Albert Griffiths, better know about Slough as 'Griff'. left his home in Newport, South Wales in 1935 on a push bike with a box of tools and £12 in his pocket. He found work on Slough Trading Estate and in 1949 began repairing crates in George Green where he was assisted by Dave Clayton who would soon leave school and begin working for Griff full time.
The first workshop was a shed in the back garden of Griff's home. With no room for machinery all work was done by hand, this included stools and carrying cases. In time they had a small workshop in Church Street and then into a yard where Slough Library now stands. Griff Woodwork gradually expanded employing and training staff to become skilled joiners and shopfitters.
In 1962 a workshop was bought in Alpha Street where we remained for over twenty five years. It was during this time that Griff retired leaving the company in the capable hands of Dave and his new partner Paul Snowsill, who had also trained since leaving school. Dave took Griff Woodwork from strength to strength improving our already wide variety of work undertaken and forged business associations that we are proud to say still exist to this day. We moved to a larger workshop in 1989, situated in Burlington Road, now specialising in all aspects of joinery and after 50 years Dave Clayton retired, handing the company to Paul
